Live and Studio Sound Engineering

I've been a live and recording engineer for 16 years and have a diploma in Sound Engineering. I am available as a live or studio engineer across London and am currently setting up a new recording space in South East London which will open in Spring 2010. I'm also available for remix work. Recent work has involved artists such as Now, Sabor Legume, James Dunn, Serafina Steer and The Monolators.

Writing and Copy Editing

I've been writing and copy editing for magazines and websites since 2005. I have a post-graduate diploma in Magazine Journalism and have written for What Hi-Fi, Future Music and Computer Shopper amongst other titles. I am available for freelance work, feel free to email me at rigsbysmith at rocketmail.com to see my portfolio.

Session Musician and Improvised Music for Movement

I've been recording as a session musician since 2004, working on projects at studios across London, including Abbey Road. I play drums, found objects, glockenspiel, guitar, bass, percussion, and tinker with clarinet, berimbau, ukelele, synths and piano or a combination thereof.
Over the last few years I have worked with some fantastic movement artists and have performed in streets and venues across London. I am available for purely improvised or directed music, in workshops, classes, performance etc, please email me at rigsbysmith at rocketmail to see my demonstration reel.

Instrumental Music and Sound Installations

I've been making non-lyrical music from live performances, found sounds, home-made samples and editing since 1997, under the name Rigsby Smith. I play drums, found objects, glockenspiel, guitar, bass, percussion, and tinker with clarinet, berimbau, ukelele, synths and piano. Rigsby Smith is largely a recording project, alongside sound installation work. There have been several releases under the Rigsby Smith moniker, involving an array of musicians, compilations and independent labels. This music has been licensed to websites, short films and an NHS promotional video. I have been making stereo and quadraphonic sound installations since 1994.

Visual Art and Video

I made my first short film at the age of 10, but I largely became interested in video in 2007. In the summer of 2008 I created a body of video of ink reacting to water, shot in natural light, under the title 'Moving Paintings' . I created promotional films for the arts collective Utrophia and continue to produce video for them. I also edit video for bands and events and operate a sliding scale in terms of budget. My work has been shown across London.

I've always drawn and painted, starting with comic books and band flyers in my teens and moving onto a batch of paintings of jazz musicians in my early twenties, some of which have been licensed to use alongside online articles. Painting is very sporadic now, although I sold a few new paintings in 2008 and still consider commissions.

Mouth 4 Rusty

In February 2009 I started writing and recording simple folk songs under the name Mouth 4 Rusty. M4R became a live group the following August, first as a duo, growing quickly into a quintet of guitar, violin, cello, melodica, percussion and two voices.
